In October 2025, Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica and PACS Group quickly mobilized to support team members and their communities. Watching from more than 2,000 miles away, PACS’ Director of IT Support leader, Taz Morrison, immediately stepped up to lead the response.

A native of Jamaica, Morrison spent his early years experiencing hurricanes and the challenging aftermaths before moving to the U.S over a decade ago. He still has family on the island, and the PACS team maintains a dedicated group of contract employees who support IT, procurement, Workday, accounting, and telecom functions.

“I know exactly what it feels like going through a storm like this,” Morrison said. “One where you know you’ll be displaced for months—without power or you won’t have running water and unsure when life will feel normal again.”

While Morrison’s family came through the storm relatively unscathed, some PACS contractors faced significant challenges. Hurricane Melissa passed directly over southwestern Jamaica, leaving widespread destruction in its wake. Homes were severely damaged or completely destroyed; roads were blocked by flooding and landslides; and nearly 77% of the country was left without power. Fortunately, none of the contractors were physically harmed, though many had to contend with property damage, disrupted services, and other storm-related hardships.

“Some people were missing roofs, some lost cars, and in some areas the water rose so high that entire homes were gone,” Morrison said. “The land itself changed—new ponds, new rivers, fallen power poles everywhere.”

PACS Steps In

True to its mission, PACS moved quickly to support its people

As soon as it was safe to do so, Morrison and three fellow PACS employees, Kaity Kelley, William Leong, and Teddale Simpson, traveled to Jamaica to assist with relief efforts focused on PACS team members and their families.

Thanks to a financial contribution from PACS Group, the team was able to provide both hands-on help and critical supplies to meet immediate needs. Their efforts included clearing debris and downed trees, as well as distributing essential items such as:

  • 180 meal packets (each providing a full day of food)
  • 100 zinc sheets for roof repairs
  • 15 mattresses
  • 100 tarps
  • 1,000 diapers
  • 60 cases of water
  • Three chainsaws
  • Two power stations
  • Clothing and toiletries

From Immediate Relief to Long-Term Support

The Jamaica trip represented only the first phase of PACS’ response. Morrison is working on plans for longer-term support to assist with rebuilding homes and restoring stability.

“What we’ve done so far was a quick response—letting people know we see them, we care, and we’re trying to help,” he said. “Phase two will be a more targeted effort to create real, lasting help.”

These efforts reflect a pattern across PACS communities to care for its people in times of crisis. In the wake of recent hurricanes impacting PACS communities, the organization launched a dedicated employee relief fund to financially support team members affected by natural disasters and significant hardships. This fund provides non-taxable assistance to help cover essential costs and offers peace of mind during life’s most difficult moments.

A Mission in Action

Hurricane Melissa underscored what PACS stands for: showing up for one another, extending care beyond the workplace, and acting with compassion when it matters most. From on-the-ground relief in Jamaica to long-term financial support through the employee relief fund, PACS remains committed to supporting team members and communities—no matter where they are or what challenges they face.
